International Design Competition 2015

CHALLENGE: Design a special edition solar-powered lamp for VKR’s 75th anniversary (incorporating Little Sun’s high-standard of technology) that addresses the need for light in a sustainable way.
DEADLINE: 15 March 2015
ELIGIBILITY: Design students enrolled at schools worldwide pursuing at least their bachelor’s degree.

PRIZE
You will make a definite social and environmental impact, while at the same time achieving wide-reaching exposure for your design, which will get into the hands of 29,000 people. 14,500 lamps based on the winning design will be produced and distributed to off-grid African regions. An additional 14,500 lamps will go to VKR employees and competition participants.

In the competition, design students are challenged to create an innovative solar-powered lamp design. 29,000 copies of the winning project will be produced and distributed globally, gaining broad exposure for the winning idea as well as creating a definite social impact.

Either individually or in teams of up to four, participants are required to submit an illustration of their idea for a solar-powered lamp design as well as a short description. Special focus will be placed on the idea’s creativity – the organisers encourage students to push their boundaries while designing a brighter future for everyone. Winners will be announced in May 2015.

The Natural Light competition will not only provide light to communities that need it the most, but will also raise awareness about sustainable energy and encourage innovation. In addition, it will pave the way for cooperation with relevant NGOs. Natural Light gives visionary students the opportunity to affect people’s lives and the environment.
