Dear Men, Do you also think like them? Can we have some Hopes?

The BBC documentary Nirbhaya, India’s Daughter has been recently released and is all over youtube. The documentary is banned in India to be shown. The documentary reveals the depressing mindset of people in Indian society and many South Asian countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc who shares almost similar culture, tradition and mindset.

The 23 years Jyoti was not only gang raped but brutally beaten. They put their hands inside her and pulled out her intestines which is extremely horrifying. How a human being could be so cruel to another human being? How such things have grown into their mind? It is a question to a whole humanity.

She was slapped, she was kicked in abdomen and she had multiple injury over her body over her private parts.

There were multiple bite over her face over her lips over her limbs.
The system by which the human body functions is all gone.

The defense lawyer’s statement proves that only education will not be able to change the mindset of a person. The lawyer is educated unlike the perpetrators, yet he don’t consider women as equal to men. Here, are his some statements:

We have the best culture. In our culture, there is no place for women.

Men and women being friends.! Sorry that does not have place in our society.Women means eye immediately put sex In his eyes.

If my daughter or sister engaged in pre marital activities and disgraced herself and allowed herself to lose face and character by doing such things. I would most certainly take this sort of sister or daughter to my farmhouse, and infront of my entire family, I would put petrol on her and burn her. This is my stand. I will stand.

The statement by one of the Rapists, who does not look like any kind of guilt or remorse for such heinous crimes says,

“When being raped, she shouldn’t fight back. She should just be silent and allow the rape. A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. Boy and girl are not equal. Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong cloths.”

This is painful to see such bitter reality of this world. Being a women myself, I have faced numerous abuses and street harassment, so does my friend. The news of children being molested and raped by older person and relatives, women severely beaten, burnt, raped, sexual abuse, street harassment is being heard, seen everyday by us. Till when?

Only yesterday, I saw group of young teenager boys who were forcefully putting colors to female in the crowded street, in the name of Holi. I with my friend was behind him. We observed him and realized he only put colors to female. Some girls tried to beat him, yell at him and some just did not react.

Why a boy thinks that touching women is something to be proud of?

This is not just the fight of women but fight of a whole humanity. As a father, brother, son, husband or a friend Men has a great part in women’s life. The inequality will not end, the crimes wont end until Men stop taking women as object but as a human being. This will not stop until, until He and She are Together for better ‘We’ for better ‘Us’ and better World.

Question to Men/Boys

Dear Men, Dear Boys,

What do you think? Because, your opinion is important for we girls to feel safe, to realize that at least there are so many men who don’t take women as a object.

Dear Men, Who is women to you? What is gender equality to you?

Will you stand with us? Are you with us against every kind of discrimination against women?

Do you believe we women are not lesser or greater than men but are equal to men?
